Like his size at 6'3 225
Now that I look at it a bit it's not terrible but I'm not thrilled with the talk of him possibly not coming over. Since it was within the division I would have liked a cleat cut "we won" on the deal.

I guess him coming over is the gamble. Let’s see how it unfolds.

Maybe having two guys on the same team that know each other plays a role in getting them both over here as soon as possible.

He is 20 year old , left-handed defenseman playing 3rd pairing minutes for best team in KHL. He is under contract only through end of next season, so he could come over then.

Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews left game tonite after hard hit from Islanders Cal Clutterbuck. Wonder if this will affect any trades?

It's ALL a gamble my man....kinda think that Gorts asked the question of whether or not the prospects they are trading for actually want to come to NHL....and when their current KHL contracts expire....no?

Yeah! The Devils "Grabbed'r" away from your Leafs, and even greater so away from Gorton.

And there is no guarantee that Shesterkin will want to play in America as well for us.

They for sure now will not trade JVR, unless he's involved in a "can't refuse" offer. But if Matthews is injured to any severe nature, trading a Nylander or a Marner to acquire McDonagh in some greater package, is also likely not happening, which will lower McDonagh's trade value elsewhere somewhat. If I was Gorton, I wouldn't even entertain trading him at this point any longer.

January 2018 – Rykov is slowly rising up the Devils' prospect depth chart with another strong season with KHL’s top team, SKA St. Petersburg. Rykov has nearly doubled his point totals from last season and has managed to find the back of the net twice this year, something he had never done before in his two previous KHL campaigns. Rykov was one of twelve Russian defenceman invited to tryout for “Olympic Athletes from Russia” who look to be a favourite in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Rykov may be a long shot to make the final roster, but he is definitely turning heads in Russia. Grant Frey

Not a bad report from a few weeks ago. Now we have to work on getting him over here.

If you trade Grabner to a team less than 10 miles away it seems to me like there is a gentlemen's agreement for Grabner to resign in NY next season so that he doesn't have to relocate.

Although at a further distance away location, had Grabner been dealt instead to Toronto, which is what all were waiting to hear the official announcement of early Thursday evening, he still could have re-signed with the Rangers. After all, he first signed to play with the Rangers two seasons ago, after departing as a free agent from ...... Toronto!
If so, should the Leafs reach the Cup Finals, he would have only been returning to play in Toronto for a period of up to 4 months, which is a very short time for him to worry about in having to "relocate", if he truly would want to re-sign with the Rangers as he has expressed, shortly thereafter.

I think Rangers made a good deal, and Devils havent clinched squat yet, they could still miss the playoffs, and this second rounder could be pretty decent spot. Getting it along with Rykov is better than a late first rounder from a contender I believe. Just my opinion.

Shoot the puck Barry! RT @RickCarpiniello: Rangers and Devils have never made a trade. Last time Rangers dealt with that franchise, it was the Colorado Rockies. ... the Barry Beck blockbuster.

I remember the day the trade happened, well getting the newspaper the next day

I was 8 years old, and the newspaper had the pictures of the 5 guys the Rangers were trading in the deal and I was broken hearted because Pat Hickey was part of the deal

you think you love Zuccarello? Pat Hickey was my guy

I just dived into the KHL stats. Rykov's stats are pretty much average, except for # of hits: last amongst D's on SKA with only 2 (!) registered hits this season...
Could be he's a big softie...?
